Ken Kirkby: Warrior Painter

Ken Kirkby: WARRIOR PAINTER

Ken Kirby: Warrior Painter is a biography. Kirkby is intelligent, funny, irreverent but always conscious of the world behind the scenes. Kirkby is one of Canada’s most inspiring advocates.

His childhood was spent on the beaches of Portugal, learning the essence of survival from a Portuguese fisherman. He then moved to Canada and at 21 years of age he set off to explore the Arctic. He joined an Inuit family travelling from Coppermine NWT to Baffin Island where an Inuit Grandmother explained the overwhelming differences between his world and hers. Ken developed a boundless passion for the people and became determined to promote a national awareness of the Inuit presence. As a whole, Canadians had little knowledge or interest in the North or its people. Ken’s promotion through his talks, paintings and persistence, ordinary Canadians as well as the Government of Canada became aware of the people of the North. This bit of Canadian history is both heartbreaking and exciting.

Ken also developed an unbridled love for the west coast of British Columbia, where he continues to paint, fish, and relax by puzzling out the theories of Quantum Physics. The Warrior Painter insists that all things are possible but it may require a strong will and a sense of humour to reach the desired result.

Karen Autio, Author, Growing Up in Wild Horse Canyon

This is an enlightening story of a very intelligent, artistically endowed, determined – and perhaps spiritually guided warrior for the conservation of the land, air and water upon which the continuation of all species, including our own, depends. In a most unusual way, Patricia Fraser has the most personal aspects of Ken Kirkby’s life.
